Description of location :
This historical site is located on the south side of the Khan Khukhii mountain range. The site, surrounded by forest, is on the riverbank facing west. The story the locals tell of why the location was selected is as follows: an ox that was pulling a cart came to a sudden stop just after crossing the river, so the main temple was built on that very spot. There are no other sacred sites near by. Originally the sum centre of Zuun Khangai was located on the monastery site. 1964 the sum centre was moved. Currently the area is mainly a spot used by herders in the autumn. Locals say a day’s ride on a horse to the top of the mountain brings you to an Old man’s Ovoo ( Uvgunii Ovoo) and from that ovoo a further 100 ovoos can be spotted. The Old Man’s Ovoo was worshiped in the early days, but now not many people know about it. One kilometre from the site there are some small storage buildings used by local households. Cattle coming to the river for water are damaging the site.

A foundation platform of the main temple is visible and is around 20-30Cm high. Sections of 7 wooden columns from the main temple are the most visible remains on the site. Some temples might have had stone floors. No other distinct remains are visible.

Notes :
1. The measures included here are the main temple’s. There was a big “ger” next to the main temple. There was a wooden fence around it, local monks said. No remains left, to be restored.
