Description of location :
The site, on the south slope of a high mountain Zendmaa, is located in TSetsen uul sum of Zavkhan province. The region is has been a subject to desertification. The site is in the Galuutian valley and Galuutain river passes to the south of the site. The source spring of the river is on the Tudevtei mountain. On the south, north, north west and west sides of the river are mountains BUrged, TUdevtei, Tarlan and Zendmaa. Locals call the site Galuutyn khuree. The whole area is becoming a desert. Now only locals can get to the site as vehicles are now rare in the area due to the build up of sand. (We spent 10 hours and 50 litres of petrol to get to the site. We made it there but our van was broken.) Administratively, the area in which the site sits belongs to Tsetsen Uul sum’s Oroin Tovgor team.

Even for the locals the site is tough to find, we tried twice ourselves and failed. Then we asked a local elder, a 70 year old woman, and she took us there. From a distance the site was not definable. When we were got onto the site we saw it was covered with all manner of garbage. Pieces of wood and stone construction materials, ash, wool, cattle skin etc. Since 1990 the site has been thoroughly searched by vandals. In a few years time the site will be completely unrecognizable. It was difficult to take photos.
