Description of location :
The site is located 28Km east of the sum centre and 8Km from Jargalant brigade. According to Rinchen’s documentation the mountain is called Erdene. But there was no such mountain in the area. Lamyn well is to the south east of the site. The site is on the front slope of Khongor Tolgoi mountain. Khongor tolgoi nuur, an impermanent salt lake, is situated between Khongor tolgoi and the supposed monastic site. East of Khongor tolgoi: Bor uul and the ranges of Tsagaan uul are situated. This part of Tsagaan uul is called Baga Tsagaan uul. Ikh Tsagaan uul is worshipped by local people. Local people said that 5 ‘Khongor’ exist in the area: 3 ranges in Tsagaandelger sum and 2 in Bayanjargalan sum. According to local people a Chinese store (püüs) stood once southwest of the area.

Status of site at time of survey :
Almost nothing remains of this monastery. A monk in the revived Baruun Choir monastery in the centre of Tsagaandelger sum gave directions on how to find the ruins, but he said the place name is Khongor Tolgoi and not Erdene Tolgoi where the ruins of Lamiin khural are situated. He said that an incarnated monk called Khuvilgaan lam used to live here. People in the locality knew and showed the surveyors a well which they call Lamiin Khudag. One said his grandmother used to tell him that a temple was situated near that well and that the monks used to drink from its water. The mountain Khongor uul is situated nearby, to the west of the site. On the site about 30 meters to the north-west of the well, stones were found in an area but there were no clear outlines that would indicate the exact temple sites. In one place the stones were in a line, however, and there was also a small section of a wooden pillar standing out of the ground. There were also pieces of old pots used by monks and an old pin was found. All these remains taken together seem to confirm that a monastery once stood here. It must have had wooden temples, which is why there is nothing else left on the site.

Notes :
Interviews: A68, A69 According to Ya. Ishbaldan, born 1916, abbot of the present Gandanravjaalin monastery in the centre of Tsagaandelger sum who became a monk at Baruun Choir monastery at the age of 8-9, there were many small jas temples in the area. Every otog had its own jas. In general, there was only one Takhilch (offering preparer) monk in these jas temples, and a Mönkh zul (eternal burning butter lamp) was burnt. During the 45 days Monlom (TIB. smon-lam, prayer) period in summer, before the Maitreya circumambulation and Khailen retreat., monks from Baruun Choir monastery came here and to the other jas temples on speicific days to hold ceremonies. According to the informant, they used to recite the text of Jambalsanjid. There were some temples here. A monk called Dashjamts resided here.
