Status of site at time of survey :
The whole area of the monastery indicates that is was a large monastery. However, there are only visible traces of 2-3 temples which indicates that the other temple buildings were likely to have been made of wood. Relic hunters appear to have visited the site, as there are copper and iron objects scattered around. Also found on the site was an incense burner or pot fragment with a Mongolian inscription was found as well as a stone with a carved Tibetan inscription. There were big courtyards and many dwellings of monks. There is a well is on the northeast with stones with Tibetan mantras on them. An ovoo is on the top of the hill behind the complex. Blue and red bricks were used for the buildings. Monks residences were made of bricks and mud, so many walls have survived. There were 5 or 6 large courtyards so had to be many temples. Probably a stupa complex stood on the hillside and were prayer-wheels there as well. The well on the northeast is 50m from the monastic site. There are some stones with Tibetan mantras written on. Probably there was another well on the northwest, too. Behind the hill, which is north of the complex there is a winter residence now and another ovoo in the far. The monastery’s litter was thrown out on the southeast side of the complex.

Notes :
According to U. Khüderchuluun vice abbot of the present Gandanchoinkhorlin monastery (ДУГС 051), which is in the centre of Gurvan-Saikhan sum, Ikh jas was the biggest monastery in the area of the sub-province (khoshuu). Monks from other monasteries in the area gathered there for bigger ceremonies. Ikh jas was the khoshuu monastery. It was famous about its 10,000 sheep (tümen khoni), this number being indicated by the thousands of white pebbles on the hillside. This monastery was famous for its livestock. Its ovoo was called Khoshuu ovoo.
The Mongolian inscription on the fragment of the copper found on the site is: Terigün ... Erdenig.o..bo i... bütügejü bi/bui...
